Fix Apple TV 'Video Not Available' & Loading Errors
Updated: 11/29/2025
You select a show on Apple TV+, the spinner appears, and then: 'Video Not Available. There is a problem loading this content.'. This error is notoriously common on 3rd Party Smart TVs (Samsung/LG) and older Apple TV boxes. It is usually a conflict with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) handshake, which prevents piracy but often blocks legitimate users.

Method 1: The HDMI Handshake Reset
Your TV and the Apple TV box stopped 'trusting' each other.
Step 1: Unplug
Unplug the HDMI cable from both the TV and the Apple TV box.
Step 2: Power Cycle
Unplug the power cord of the TV and the Apple TV. Wait 60 seconds.
Step 3: Reconnect
Plug the power back in first. Then connect the HDMI cable. This forces a new HDCP security check, often clearing the playback block.
Method 2: Lower Video Resolution
If your internet speed dipped, the Apple TV might be trying to force 4K HDR and failing.
- Go to Settings > Video and Audio.
- Change 'Format' from 4K HDR to 1080p SDR.
- Try playing the video. If it works, your HDMI cable might be too old to support 4K bandwidth, or your internet is throttling.
Method 3: Sign Out and Reset
If using the app on a Smart TV, the login token is likely stale.
After signing out, restart the TV (hold power button on remote). Sign back in. This downloads a fresh user profile and decryption key.
