Fix Coinbase 'Connection Trouble' & Rate Limits
Updated: 11/29/2025
Bitcoin is pumping, you rush to buy or sell, and the Coinbase app greets you with: 'Connection Trouble. We're having looks like we're having connection issues.' or 'Rate Limit Exceeded'. In the volatile world of crypto, seconds cost money. These errors typically happen when the Coinbase servers are overloaded by traffic, or your local ISP connection has been flagged for sending too many requests.

Method 1: Switch Networks (Bypass IP Throttling)
If you refreshed the price chart too many times, Coinbase's firewall might have soft-banned your WiFi IP address.
Step 1: Disable WiFi
Turn off WiFi on your phone.
Step 2: Use Cellular Data
Open the app using 5G/4G. Carrier IPs rotate frequently and are rarely rate-limited. If the app loads instantly, your home IP was the issue.
Method 2: Clear App Cache and Restart
Old price data in your cache can conflict with the live feed.
For Android
Go to Settings > Apps > Coinbase > Storage > Clear Cache.
For iPhone
You must uninstall and reinstall the app to clear the container. This also forces you to re-verify your device via 2FA, which refreshes your security token.
Method 3: Use Coinbase.com (Browser)
The mobile app relies on a specific API that gets clogged easily. The desktop website uses a more robust connection.
Open Chrome or Safari on your phone and go to coinbase.com. Log in there. You can perform the same trades on the mobile web version, and it often works even when the specific App API is down.
