Fix Crunchyroll Black Screen & 'Something Went Wrong'

Updated: 11/29/2025

You click the next episode of One Piece or Jujutsu Kaisen, an ad plays, and then... nothing. Just a black screen with audio, or a spinning orange circle that never ends. The Crunchyroll player is notoriously sensitive to ad-blockers and browser hardware settings. If the player detects that an ad failed to load correctly, it often refuses to start the main video content.

Method 1: Disable AdBlockers (The #1 Cause)

Even if you are a Premium subscriber, ad-blocking extensions can break the video player script.

Step 1: Extensions

Look for uBlock, AdGuard, or Privacy Badger.

Step 2: Whitelist

Pause the blocker specifically for crunchyroll.com. Reload the page. If the video starts, the blocker was cutting off the Content Delivery Network (CDN) stream.

Method 2: Disable Hardware Acceleration (Web)

If you get a Black Screen with Audio (you can hear the show but see nothing), it is a graphics driver conflict.

Step 1: Browser Settings

In Chrome/Edge, go to Settings > System.

Step 2: Toggle Off

Turn OFF 'Use graphics acceleration when available'.

Step 3: Relaunch

Restart the browser. This forces the CPU to render the video, bypassing the buggy GPU driver.

Method 3: Clear App Data (Mobile)

On Android or iOS, the app cache can grow huge after binge-watching.

  • Android: Settings > Apps > Crunchyroll > Storage > Clear Data.
  • iOS: You must uninstall the app and reinstall it to clear the cache fully.
Note: This will delete offline downloads, so be prepared to re-download episodes.
