Fix Discord Mic Not Working (Green Circle But No Sound)
Updated: 11/29/2025
You are in a voice channel. You speak, and the green circle around your avatar lights up, but nobody can hear you. Or maybe the circle doesn't light up at all. Discord's audio subsystem is complex, and it often desyncs from Windows privacy settings or your headset's exclusive mode drivers.
Table of Contents
Method 1: Reset Voice Settings (The Scroll Down Fix)
Before messing with drivers, use the built-in reset button.
Step 1: User Settings
Click the Gear icon next to your name > Voice & Video.
Step 2: Reset
Scroll to the very bottom of the page. Click the red text: Reset Voice Settings. This clears any bad input configurations. Re-select your headset from the Input Device dropdown.
Method 2: Disable 'Automatic Input Sensitivity'
If the green circle never lights up, your 'gate' is too high.
- Go to Voice & Video.
- Uncheck 'Automatically determine input sensitivity'.
- Speak into your mic. Drag the slider to the left until the bar turns green when you talk. If the bar stays yellow, Discord is muting you because it thinks you are background noise.
Method 3: Check Windows Privacy
Windows Update sometimes revokes Discord's permission to use the mic.
Press Win + I > Privacy > Microphone. Ensure 'Allow desktop apps to access your microphone' is ON. Look for Discord in the list and make sure it is allowed.
