Fix Disney+ Error Code 83 (Device Incompatible) - 2025

Updated: 11/29/2025

You sit down to watch The Mandalorian, but the screen goes black and displays: 'Something went wrong. Please try again. If the problem persists, visit the Help Center (Error Code 83).' This is the most common and frustrating error on the platform. It technically means Disney's servers think your device is 'incompatible' or a security threat, but it often triggers falsely due to slow internet or bad IP routing.

Why does Disney think my device is incompatible?

Disney+ uses a strict DRM (Digital Rights Management) system called Widevine. If your browser, HDMI cable, or internet connection fails the security check, Error 83 triggers to prevent 'piracy'. Common causes include:

  • Linux Browsers: Disney+ often blocks Linux unless DRM is manually enabled.
  • Bad IP Address: Your ISP assigned you an IP that Disney flagged as a VPN.
  • Outdated Firmware: Your Smart TV hasn't updated its security certificates.

Method 1: The IP Cycle (Mobile Hotspot Test)

To confirm if your home internet is blocked, try this test.

Step 1: Disconnect WiFi

Turn off WiFi on your phone or TV.

Step 2: Use Cellular Data

Connect to your mobile hotspot (LTE/5G). Try to play the video. If it works, your home IP address is blacklisted. You need to restart your router to get a new dynamic IP.

Method 2: Check DRM Compliance (PC/Browser)

If you are watching on Chrome or Edge, your browser might be blocking protected content.

Step 1: Check Updates

Go to Chrome Settings > About Chrome. Ensure you are on the latest version.

Step 2: Allow Protected Content

Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Additional content settings > Protected content IDs. Ensure sites are allowed to play protected content.

Method 3: Reinstall Clean Version

On Fire Stick or Roku, cached data often corrupts the login token.

Pro Tip: Do not just uninstall. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Disney+. Select Clear Data first, THEN uninstall. This ensures no corrupted files remain before you reinstall.
