Fix Amazon Fire TV 'Home is Currently Unavailable' Error
Updated: 11/29/2025
You turn on your Fire Stick, and instead of your apps, you get a black screen with orange text: 'Home is Currently Unavailable'. You can't see your apps, you can't navigate, and the remote seems sluggish. This happens when the Fire Stick connects to the router but cannot establish a secure handshake with the Amazon Appstore server.

Method 1: Deregister the Device
The security token linking your Fire Stick to your Amazon account has corrupted.
Step 1: Settings
Hold the Home button on your remote to force the menu. Go to Settings > Account & Profile Settings.
Step 2: Deregister
Select Amazon Account > Deregister. Confirm it.
Step 3: Sign In
The device will reset to the login screen. Enter your Amazon email and password again. This downloads a fresh, working dashboard.
Method 2: Use the HDMI Extender
This is a hardware fix. If your Fire Stick is plugged directly into the back of the TV, the metal backing of the TV acts as a Faraday Cage, blocking the WiFi signal.
The Fix: Use the short 3-inch HDMI extender cable that came in the box. Moving the stick even 2 inches away from the back of the TV can double your WiFi reception and fix connection timeouts.
Method 3: Power Cycle Router & Stick
Both devices need a handshake refresh.
- Unplug the Fire Stick from the wall (not just the TV).
- Unplug your Router.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug Router back in. Wait for lights.
- Plug Fire Stick back in.
