Fix Meta Quest Error Code 108 Guardian Tracking Not Working (2025)
Updated: 11/29/2025
You put on your Meta Quest headset ready to relax in VR, but instead of your usual home environment you are stuck on a gray screen with a message about Guardian not working or Error Code 108. Your controllers drift, the boundary cannot be drawn, and everything feels broken even though it worked fine yesterday. This problem is usually caused by tracking sensors losing sight of your surroundings or corrupted guardian data, but with a few careful adjustments you can usually restore stable tracking at home.

Method 1: Fix Room Lighting and Camera Obstructions
Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe each of the external cameras on the front corners and sides of the headset, removing any fingerprints or dust. Do not use abrasive cleaners or water, a light dry wipe is usually enough to restore a clear view for the sensors.
Method 2: Reset Guardian Boundary and Recalibrate the Play Area
Choose whether you want a Roomscale or Stationary guardian, then follow the on screen instructions to mark your floor and trace the safe area with your controller. Move slowly and keep the controller visible to the headset cameras at all times while drawing.
Method 3: Reboot, Update Firmware, and Check Tracking Settings
In the same settings menu open Device or Tracking and verify that Headset tracking and Guardian are both switched on. If you recently changed experimental settings or enabled developer mode, return any tracking related toggle to its default state and retest the headset in your normal play area.
