Fix Netflix Error NW-2-5 (Network Configuration Issue)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You select your profile, and Netflix immediately throws a screen saying: 'Netflix has encountered an error. Retrying in X seconds. Code: NW-2-5'. This error code is specific to Network Connectivity. It means your device (TV/Console) physically cannot reach the Netflix servers, usually due to a DNS resolution failure or a router firewall blocking streaming traffic.

Method 1: Verify Connection via Netflix Help

Netflix has a built-in network tester.

Step 1: More Details

On the error screen, select 'More Details' or 'Check your Network'.

Step 2: Run Test

Let it check all 3 Netflix servers. If 'Internet Connection' fails but your WiFi is working for other apps, your Router is specifically blocking Netflix traffic.

Method 2: Bypass Router (DNS Fix)

Your ISP's default phonebook (DNS) might be down. Switch to Google's.

  • PS5/Xbox: Settings > Network > Manual DNS > 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4.
  • Smart TV: Network Settings > IP Settings > DNS Server > Enter 8.8.8.8.

Restart the device. This often bypasses regional ISP blocks on streaming.

Method 3: Improve WiFi Signal

NW-2-5 often triggers if the WiFi signal drops below 3 bars. Streaming requires a constant, steady stream.

Tip: If you are using a Smart TV, remember that the WiFi antenna is often on the back of the TV. If the TV is mounted flush against a wall, the signal is blocked. Pull the TV out slightly or use a WiFi Extender.
