Fix Uber 'Payment Failed' or 'We Can't Process Your Request'

Updated: 11/29/2025

You are stuck in the rain, late for an appointment, or just trying to get home. You hit 'Confirm Uber', and the app rejects you with: 'Payment Failed' or 'We can't process your request.'. Being stranded by an app glitch is infuriating. This error usually happens because your bank flagged the transaction as fraud, or the Uber app has cached an 'Outstanding Balance' that doesn't actually exist.

Method 1: Delete and Re-Add the Card

The digital token linking Uber to your bank might have expired.

Step 1: Wallet

Open the Uber menu and tap Wallet (or Payment).

Step 2: Add Payment Method

Do NOT delete your old card yet. Add the same card again as if it were new. This forces a new verification handshake with your bank.

Step 3: Delete Old

Once the 'new' version of the card is active, delete the old entry. Try requesting the ride again.

Method 2: Check for 'Ghost' Outstanding Balances

Sometimes a previous ride payment failed (e.g., a $5 tip didn't go through), and Uber locked your account until it is paid.

Go to Wallet or Activity. If you see a red text saying 'Outstanding Payment', click it and pay it manually. Even a debt of $0.50 will block you from ordering a $50 ride.

Method 3: Use Uber Cash / Gift Card

If your bank is blocking Uber due to fraud suspicion (common when traveling), bypass the bank entirely.

Emergency Fix: Buy an Uber Gift Card from Amazon or a convenience store and load it into the app. Uber Cash balance works instantly and bypasses credit card verification checks.
