Fix WhatsApp Error 495 Status 495 Download Failed From Play Store (2025)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You open the Google Play Store to install or update WhatsApp, tap the button, watch the circle spin, and then see a vague message like Could not be downloaded due to an error, Status 495. The store closes the progress bar, and no matter how many times you tap retry the download never finishes. This error is usually tied to a mix of Play Store cache problems, Google account sync issues, or strict network settings, not a problem with WhatsApp itself.

Method 1: Clear Play Store And Google Services Cache

Close all running apps from the recent apps view, then relaunch the Google Play Store, search for WhatsApp, and tap Install or Update again. The store will rebuild cache and usually bypass the old Status 495 error on the fresh attempt.

Method 2: Refresh Google Account Sync And Network

Connect to a different WiFi network or switch to mobile data before trying the WhatsApp download again. Some office or school networks block specific Google domains that the Play Store needs, which can silently trigger Status 495 whenever you download large apps.

Warning: If you use a VPN or ad blocking app that filters connections system wide, disable it temporarily while troubleshooting Play Store errors so you do not mistake blocked traffic for a device issue.

Method 3: Use A Clean APK Install When Play Store Stays Stuck

Open your notifications or file manager, tap the WhatsApp APK file, and follow the prompts to install it on your device. After confirming that WhatsApp opens correctly and you can verify your phone number, return to Install unknown apps in Settings and disable the permission to keep your device more secure.
