Fix Microsoft Store Error 0x80131500 (Store Won't Open)
Updated: 11/29/2025
You try to download an app or Game Pass title, but the Microsoft Store fails to load. A sad face appears with: 'Try that again. Something happened on our end. Error Code: 0x80131500'. This is rarely a server issue. It is almost always a Region Mismatch error, where your PC's region setting conflicts with the Store's content server, or a disabled internet security protocol.
Table of Contents
Method 1: Change Region Settings
The Store is region-locked. If your PC is set to a region that doesn't match your IP or account, it breaks.
Step 1: Settings
Press Win + I > Time & Language > Region.
Step 2: Country or Region
Change this to your actual physical location (e.g., United States). Do not set it to a random country to get games early, as this triggers the 0x80131500 block. Restart the Store.
Method 2: Enable TLS 1.2
The Store uses older internet explorer protocols to fetch data.
Step 1: Internet Options
Press Win + R, type inetcpl.cpl, and hit Enter.
Step 2: Advanced
Go to the Advanced tab. Scroll to the bottom. Ensure 'Use TLS 1.2' is checked. If it is off, the Store cannot establish a secure connection.
Method 3: Reset Store Cache (WSReset)
Force Windows to purge the temporary Store files.
Press Win + R, type that command, and hit Enter. A black command prompt will appear for about 10 seconds, then the Store will launch automatically, fresh and clean.
