Fix X (Twitter) 'Something went wrong. Try reloading.'

Updated: 11/29/2025

You try to view a profile or a thread, and X hits you with a generic error: 'Something went wrong. Try reloading.'. You click Retry, but nothing happens. This generic error is almost always a client-side issue, meaning your browser or app has 'forgotten' how to talk to the X server, usually due to a Time Zone mismatch or a stale cookie.

Method 1: Sync Your Time Zone

X's security certificates require your device time to match the server time perfectly.

Step 1: Check Clock

Look at your phone or PC clock. Is it even 2 minutes off?

Step 2: Auto-Set Time

Go to your device settings and toggle 'Set Time Automatically' OFF and then ON again. This forces a resync with the atomic clock. Refresh X, and the timeline often loads instantly.

Method 2: Clear 'X' Cookies

Old session tokens from before the 'Twitter to X' rebrand can cause conflicts.

Chrome > Settings > Privacy > Site Settings > View permissions > Search 'x.com' > Delete

Do the same for twitter.com if it appears. You will need to log in again.

Method 3: Disable Data Saver

If images aren't loading with the error, your Data Saver settings might be too aggressive.

  • Open X sidebar > Settings & Support.
  • Accessibility, display, and languages > Data usage.
  • Uncheck 'Data saver'.
