Fix Microsoft Edge STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION Aw Snap Crash (2025)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You are browsing in Microsoft Edge, a page suddenly turns white, and you see an Aw Snap style crash with a code like STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION. Sometimes it happens only on certain sites, other times the whole browser feels unstable. This error means something in the browsing process tried to access memory in a way Windows did not like, often because of buggy extensions, experimental flags, or corrupted profile data.

Method 1: Turn Off Extensions And Isolate The Culprit

If the error stops when extensions are off, turn them back on one at a time, testing after each change. When the crash returns right after enabling a specific extension, you have likely found the culprit, and you can remove it or look for an updated version.

Method 2: Reset Experimental Flags And Renderer Settings

Click your profile icon in the top bar, choose Add profile, and create a new one without signing in yet. Use this clean profile to visit the same pages, if crashes stop, your original profile has corrupted settings or data that may need a reset or rebuild.

Warning: Deleting your main profile without exporting favorites and passwords first can cause data loss, always back up anything important before a full reset.

Method 3: Repair Or Reinstall Edge And Check System Files

Open Windows Update and install all important patches, then visit your GPU vendor’s app or website to get the latest drivers. Updated graphics and system components reduce the risk that Edge will stumble into access violations while rendering complex sites.
