Fix Microsoft Edge 'Hmm... can't reach this page' Error
Updated: 11/29/2025
You try to open a website, and Edge instantly fails with: 'Hmm... can't reach this page'. It often suggests 'DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN'. This is annoying because Chrome or Firefox might work perfectly fine on the same PC. This means the issue isn't your internet; it is Edge's specific internal network configuration conflicting with Windows 10/11 settings.

Method 1: Disable IPv6
Edge sometimes struggles to resolve addresses using the newer IPv6 protocol.
Step 1: Control Panel
Press Win + R, type ncpa.cpl, and hit Enter.
Step 2: Properties
Right-click your WiFi/Ethernet adapter > Properties.
Step 3: Uncheck IPv6
Find Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box. Click OK. Restart Edge.
Method 2: Repair Microsoft Edge
Since Edge is built into Windows, you can't easily uninstall it. You must use the Repair tool.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Find Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three dots (...) > Modify.
- Click Repair. This redownloads the core browser files without deleting your bookmarks.
Method 3: Change DNS to Cloudflare
Edge prefers fast DNS lookups. Use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 for speed.
Step 1: Edge Settings
In Edge, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
Step 2: Security
Scroll down to Security. Enable 'Use secure DNS'. Select 'Choose a service provider' and click Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
