How to Fix Fortnite Matchmaking Error 91 (Party Issues)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You accept a friend's invite, the loading circle spins, and then boom: 'The party is currently not responding to join requests. Error Code: 91.' This error is legendary in the Fortnite community. It basically means the matchmaking service and your client have 'desynced'—your game thinks you are in a party, but the server thinks you are alone.

The 'Private Party' Glitch

Error 91 is almost always a cross-platform connectivity bug. It happens most often when a PC player tries to join an Xbox/PS5 lobby, or vice versa. The game gets confused about who is hosting.

Method 1: The Party Toggle Trick

This is the weirdest, yet most effective fix found by the community. It forces the server to update your status.

Step 1: Go Solo

Leave any party you are currently stuck in.

Step 2: Change Privacy

Open your Social Menu (top left). Change your Party Privacy from Public to Private.

Step 3: Apply and Revert

Apply the setting. Wait 5 seconds. Then change it back to Public. Try joining your friend again immediately.

Method 2: Verify Game Files (PC)

If the toggle didn't work, you might have a corrupted asset file.

Step 1: Open Epic Games Launcher

Go to your Library and find Fortnite.

Step 2: Manage

Click the three dots (...) next to the game title and select Manage > Verify.

Warning: This can take 10-15 minutes depending on your internet speed, as it scans every single game file.
