Roblox Error 524: Authorization Timeout (VIP Server Fix)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You try to join a friend's VIP server in Adopt Me or Brookhaven, the loading spinner freezes, and you see: Authorization has been denied. (Error Code: 524). Unlike connection errors, this is a Permission Error. It essentially means the server is running, but it refuses to let you specifically inside.

The 3 Reasons for Error 524

Before you restart your router, understand that this is rarely an internet issue. It happens because:

  1. VIP Server Settings: The owner of the VIP server has set it to 'Friends Only' and you are not on their list.
  2. Guest Mode: You are trying to play a rated game as a Guest (or a new account < 30 days old).
  3. Lag Timeout: Your connection was so slow that the server stopped waiting for your authorization packet.

Method 1: Fix VIP Server Permissions

If you are trying to join a VIP server, the invite link might be broken or expired.

Step 1: Ask for a Re-Invite

Ask the server owner to go to their Configure Server settings and regenerate the invite link.

Step 2: Check Allow List

The owner must ensure the setting 'Friends Allowed' is toggled ON. If it is off, they must manually add your username to the whitelist.

Method 2: The VPN Bypass (For Regional Blocks)

Sometimes Roblox blocks connections from specific regions due to DDOS attacks. Using a VPN can route you through a cleaner path.

Warning: Only use reputable VPNs. Free VPNs are often flagged by Roblox as suspicious, leading to Error 267.

Connect to a server in your own country (e.g., US East to US West) to minimize ping while changing your routing path.

Method 3: Reinstall the UWP App

The Windows Store version of Roblox (UWP) is known to have authorization bugs. Switching to the web-based player often fixes 524.

Step 1: Uninstall

Remove 'Roblox' from your Apps & Features list.

Step 2: Download Player

Go to Roblox.com, pick any game, and click Play. This will force your browser to download the Roblox Player Launcher (executable version), which is more stable than the Windows Store app.
