Fix Telegram 'Too Many Attempts, Please Try Again Later'
Updated: 11/29/2025
You got a new phone or logged out by accident. You enter your phone number to get the code, and Telegram stops you cold: 'Too many attempts. Please try again later.'. Unlike other apps where 'later' means 5 minutes, Telegram's security timer can last for 24 hours or more. This is an IP-based or Number-based flood protection system.

How long do I have to wait?
The wait time varies based on how many times you spammed the button:
- Level 1: 15 Minutes to 1 Hour.
- Level 2: 24 Hours (The most common).
- Level 3: 7 Days (Rare, for extreme spam).
Method 1: The 24-Hour Walkaway
This is the only guaranteed fix. Close the app completely. Do not open it. Do not try to log in. Set a timer on your phone for exactly 24 hours and 5 minutes. When the alarm goes off, try logging in once using a stable WiFi connection.
Method 2: Use a Different Device (QR Code)
If you are still logged in on a Desktop or an iPad, you don't need an SMS code.
Step 1: Open Web/Desktop
Go to Settings > Devices > Link Desktop Device on your logged-in device.
Step 2: Scan
On your locked-out phone, try to see if you can choose 'Login via QR Code' instead of phone number (this option depends on app version/region). If you scan it, you bypass the SMS flood check.
Method 3: Change Connection (IP Reset)
Sometimes the 'Too Many Attempts' flag is attached to your WiFi IP address, not your phone number.
- Turn off WiFi.
- Enable Mobile Data.
- Restart your phone.
- Try logging in ONCE. If it works, your WiFi IP was the problem.
