Fix Tinder Error 40303: Are You Banned? (2025)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You go to swipe, but the app logs you out. You try to sign back in, and you are hit with the dreaded message: 'Something went wrong. Error 40303'. In the Tinder world, 40303 is the code of death. It almost always means your account has been flagged by the automated moderation system for violating terms (or being reported too many times).

Is 40303 a Permanent Ban?

Usually, yes. Tinder tracks three things to enforce bans: your Phone Number, your Apple/Google ID, and your Device ID. If you see 40303, creating a new account on the same phone often results in an instant re-ban.

Warning: Do not try to create a new account immediately using the same phone number. It will be flagged instantly.

Method 1: The Appeal (If you are innocent)

If you truly believe this was a mistake (e.g., you were mass-reported by a bot), you can appeal.

Step 1: Go to Appeal Center

Visit account.gotinder.com/appeal in a web browser.

Step 2: Submit Details

Log in with your banned credentials. Select 'Trouble with account login' > 'Can't login, my account was banned'. Write a polite, human explanation. Do not use AI to write the appeal.

Method 2: The Browser Workaround

Sometimes the ban is tied specifically to the app's device identifier on your phone.

Step 1: Use Incognito

Open Chrome or Safari in Incognito mode.

Step 2: Desktop Site

Go to Tinder.com (not the app). Try logging in. If it works here but not on the app, your phone's Device ID is banned, but your account is safe.

Method 3: The Hard Reset (New Account)

If the account is gone, you need a clean slate to start over.

  • Uninstall Tinder completely.
  • Get a new Phone Number (Google Voice often doesn't work; use a real SIM).
  • Use a different Apple ID/Google Account to download the app.
  • Do not use old photos (Hash matching can detect them).
