Fix Roku Error Code 009 (Connected but No Internet)

Updated: 11/29/2025

You turn on your TV, select Netflix, and get stopped by: 'Unable to connect to the Internet. Error Code 009.'. The confusing part is that your WiFi signal looks strong. This specific error code means the Roku has successfully connected to your Router (local link), but it cannot reach the outside Internet (WAN). It is a DNS or IP conflict.

Method 1: The System Restart (Not Power Off)

Turning your TV 'off' with the remote just puts it in standby. It holds onto the bad network error.

Step 1: Go to System

Navigate to Settings > System > Power > System Restart.

Step 2: Confirm

Select Restart. The TV will turn off and show the dancing Roku logo. This reboot flushes the network card's memory.

Method 2: The Network Connection Reset

If a restart didn't work, you need to forget the WiFi credentials and re-enter them.

  • Go to Settings > System > Advanced system settings.
  • Select Network Connection Reset.
  • The TV will restart. You will need to select your WiFi network and type the password again. This assigns a fresh IP address to the device.

Method 3: Check 2.4GHz vs 5GHz

Older Roku devices (like the Express) only support 2.4GHz WiFi. If you have a dual-band router that automatically steers devices to 5GHz, the Roku will see the network but fail to connect (Error 009).

Fix: Log into your router and create a dedicated 'Guest Network' that is 2.4GHz only. Connect your Roku to that.
